Bluetooth Keyboard

I seriously had no intention to purchase a keyboard, but I did. I ordered the Motorola bluetooth keyboard from Amazon.com earlier this week. It’s getting its first workout this morning.
It seems to be working very good. Out of habit, I attempted to highlight a section of text to cut and paste and it worked. It has a number of Xoom specific keys, including web browser, email, contacts, music, volume, and the all important back button. There are cursor direction keys.
Spell check does not appear to be working. I’ll keep an eye on this. It may be a function of the WordPress app.
I’m also listening to a collection of classical music with the built-in media player.
More App testing
0My Verizon Mobile for Tablets (free): This app activated itself today. I’m pretty sure that was connected to my billing cycle ending so soon. This app shows your data usage in a widget. I keep it on my home screen, so I can see how much bandwidth I’m using at all times. I have a much longer tale involving the establishment of my on-line account for the Verizon Wireless website. I’ll save that for later.
Amazon MP3 (free): I finally got around to buying some music from Amazon. It’s painless. By default, the music is stored in the root of the Xoom’s file system in a folder named AmazonMP3. I’m still syncing my music collection with Doubletwist and there is an option to sync purchased music to your computer.
Thumb Keyboard (1.19 Euro): This one is really cool. It allows you to replace the OS supplied keyboard with a keyboard optimized for tablets along with Android smartphones in general. What makes it special? It shrinks the keyboard to your specifications, then splits it and shifts each half closer to your thumbs. You can then type much faster using only your thumbs- while you hold your Xoom with both hands. It takes some getting used to, but I’ll have the hang of it in a few days.
WordPress (free): I wanted to find a way to post to this blog and other WordPress blogs that I run. I gave this a shot and it hooks into the blog perfectly. I’ll give it a real test later this week.
Aldiko eBook Reader ($4.99) : I decided to try my hand at importing an eBook over the weekend, One of my favorite authors, Jeffery Carver, gave away the eBook version of Sunborn, if you purchased the real book. I don’t remember the circumstances, but I had an HTML version of the book. I’ve been playing with the Calibre eBook Manager (Windows, Mac, and Linux versions!) for a while. I already had Sunborn in my Calibre Library, so I converted it the ePub format and copied to my Xoom via the USB cable. I then opened the file from within Aldiko and it worked like a champ.
Alarm Clock Plus (NoAds) ($2.99): I wanted to add a few more comments about Alarm Click Plus. I had problems creating playlists on the Xoom and making them visible to Alarm Clock Plus. I created 2 and they never showed up. After troubleshooting it for a while, I eventually came the conclusion that I needed to create the playlists within iTunes. Doubletwist pulls all of itself information from iTunes, so the new playlist showed up in Doubletwist the next time I ran it. I went into my Alarm setting and pointed it to the new playlist and viola…I woke up to a collection of classical violin, piano, and string music.
A word on Google Checkout (via web browser)
Did you know that you can easily look at a list of everything you’ve purchased? Log in to your gmail account via a web browser. You’ll notice a little gear in the upper right hand corner. Click it and then select Account Settings. You’ll see a list of every Google service that’s tied to your gmail account. Click Adsense.
